Recovery Continues for Global Operator Terminal Market

Wellingborough, UK –27th August 2010 - The world operator terminal market declined by over 20% in 2009, according to a new report from . 

The economic downturn had a huge impact on 2009 operator terminal revenues. However, the report gives a reason to be optimistic, forecasting an immediate rebound of Asia Pacific operator terminal revenues in 2010; and projecting EMEA and Americas operator terminal revenues to recover to 2008 levels in 2013.

A factor that prolonged the effects of the downturn on operator terminal suppliers, particularly in EMEA and the Americas, was the rebound in the consumer sector. IMS Research market analyst Daniel Welch comments “during the latter stages of 2009 and early stages of 2010, component manufacturers struggled to meet large demand for components, such as displays. During this time, demand for components from manufacturers of consumer products, such as TV’s and laptops had impacted supply to the industrial sector. However, it now appears that component supply is catching up with consumer and industrial demand, which will help growth of operator terminal revenues”.

IMS Research’s free regional quarterly operator terminal tracker, which had approximately 60% world market coverage in 2009, confirms the recent upturn in operator terminal revenues. Welch continues “recent tracker results show revenues ramped up in the first and second quarters of 2010. For some suppliers, quarterly revenues were approaching levels last seen in 2008. Looking ahead, many of the tracker participants believe operator terminal revenue growth will continue in the third and fourth quarters of 2010, albeit at lower levels than the first half of the year, as the market begins to settle.”
