ESI AND Intel give us the simulation-based design software

Today,the auto industry must move away from the traditional trial-and-error methodology of crash testing and embrace simulation-based design. To help designers and engineers achieve this take advantage of the latest simulation technology,ESI and Intel hace been working to bring leading simulation software to market that will help companies to innovate faster by reducing the need for real prototypes through collaborative engineering.

Specifically, the research and development teams at ESI and Intel have been working to optimise ESI's Visual Environment V3.0 to take advantage of Intel's multi-core processors,using software tools(Intel VTune and Intel Thread Checker).

This joint Intel/ESI development means users can now enjoy enhanced computing performance, better cost efficiency and more choice with regards to the size of the crash model.

The development also provides more accurate simulations. Data-processing time is up to 2.79 times faster for huge crash models(10 millon elements) on Visual Environment V3.0, as optimised on the latest multi-core Intel Xeon processor.

ESI's integrated solution underpins a proven engineering simulation environment based on openness and extended interoperability with tier CAE and ESI's solvers. This sharing of resources between ESI and Intel amounts to a significant step forward in realistic simulations that use a minimum of 10m elements for crash simulation.

The first results point to a performance boost of up to 250% in data processing from VE 2.5 to the VE 3.0 optimised on the latest dual-core Intel Xeon Processor 5100 Series , as well as more than 4GB allocated in memory using Windows XP 64bit on the latest multi-core Intel Xeon processor . These outstanding scores produce more accurate simulations , mainly due to a refined model which allows the investigation of critical zones, such as that made by a German carmaker using the multi-scale coupling option of Pam-Crash 2G to introduce detailed information results from casting into crash-model simulation.
