Emerson’s comprehensive PlantWeb solution includes deployment of the Ovation expert control system, which will monitor and control the plant’s main and auxiliary boilers, as well as the burner management system, air quality control system, and balance of plant processes. The Ovation system will also perform data acquisition, including sequence of events. The new plant will make extensive use of digital bus-based technologies, with Emerson’s Ovation system incorporating 230 FOUNDATION? fieldbus segments (representing 1,100 devices) and 106 Profibus segments (representing 1,000 Profibus-DP devices). In total, the Ovation system will manage more than 4,600 hard I/O points.
In addition, Emerson will provide AMS Suite predictive maintenance software which streamlines device configuration and commissioning. AMS Device Manager also provides online access to instrument and valve diagnostics and automatic documentation of all field device maintenance information – all contributing to ongoing efficiency of plant operations and maintenance activities.
Dry Fork will also utilize Emerson’s SmartProcess combustion optimization technology. By incorporating fuzzy logic, advanced analytics and model predictive control, SmartProcess optimization technology offers adaptive improvement solutions to help utilities achieve optimized equipment performance for emissions compliance, temperature control, efficiency, and overall continuous operational improvement.
As part of its comprehensive automation and control solution, Emerson will also supply a high-fidelity Scenario simulator. Configured using control logic identical to that of the plant, high-fidelity simulators offer a highly realistic training and engineering analysis environment. In addition to training Dry Fork operators on the new Ovation system, Emerson’s simulation solution will be used to test and verify control logic and for unit check-out prior to the plant’s synchronization to the grid.
