Honeywell to control Russian paper mill

2025China.cn   2008年10月30日

October. 29, 2008 -- Honeywell announced that Vaahto Pulp & Paper Machinery, a specialist Finnish systems integrator serving the pulp and paper industry, selected it as the integrated main automation contractor for the first light weight coated (LWC) paper plant in Russia.

Vaahto will deploy Honeywell process control technology, as well rely on Honeywell for project engineering services at the beginning of the project and for training and on-site services upon completion. This works is part of a $40 million revamp of the Kama paper mill in Krasnokamsk, located in Russia’s Perm region. The Kama mill belongs to InvestLesProm (ILP), one of Russia’s largest pulp and paper companies.

Honeywell’s Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) will be used to streamline production by enabling the unification of process, production and business management. The system ties together critical subsystems, including process units and safety systems, throughout the plant and delivers relevant information directly to operators for improved decision making in the control room. Experion’s flexibility allows operators to modify the system according to process requirements, which should continuously improve overall production efficiency.

Honeywell will also deliver its DaVinci Quality Control System, which uses online sensors to help produce paper according to precise, high-resolution measurements, and also uses a web imaging and monitoring system to detect and monitor potential defects in the paper sheets.

The Honeywell products and services will help enable the Kama mill to begin producing LWC paper by the end of 2009. LWC paper is used for magazines, catalogues and advertising material where excellent printing quality and image reproduction is required. The Kama mill will primarily supply the Russian market.

“The modernization of the Kama mill is significant because it will enable ILP, for the first time, to supply LWC paper to Russian customers,” said Jyrki Strengell, vice president, Vaahto Pulp & Paper Machinery. “We chose our partners for this project carefully. The members of Honeywell’s project team have strong expertise in process knowledge and quality optimization, and the company is committed to working closely with us to provide one total solution to the customer.”

“As the Russian economy grows, so too does demand for higher quality paper,” said Timo Saarelainen, managing director, Honeywell Finland. “Our technology should help ILP deliver product that meets the highest quality standards, and do so in a way that is safe, reliable and efficient. We are proud of the degree of cooperation and integration we’ve achieved with Vaahto, which has served to meet one of the customer’s key requirements.”

Honeywell International is a $38 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials. Based in Morris Township, N.J., Honeywell’s shares are traded on the New York, London and Chicago Stock Exchanges.
