Invensys to upgrade five power plants in Indonesia

2025China.cn   2008年12月16日
December 16, 2008 - Invensys Process Systems (IPS) signed five contracts to make automation upgrades to five power plants on behalf of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN Persero), Indonesia’s largest electricity producer. Under the terms of the agreement, IPS will provide distributed control systems (DCS) and automation solutions to power plants located in Banten, Jawa Barat, Jawa Tengah and Jawa Timur, representing some 3,820 megawatts of power generation capacity.

The automation upgrades at PLN Persero plants are part of a larger effort by the Indonesian government to expand the country’s power generation capacity. Dubbed the “10,000MW Crash Program” and announced in 2004, Indonesia aims to add 10,000MW of new capacity by 2010.

“IPS is honored to play an important part in Indonesia’s efforts towards energy independence, laying the technological foundations that will bring unparalleled operational efficiencies and flexibilities as PLN Persero upgrades its network of plants,” said Mr. Lawrence Wee, President for IPS, Asia Pacific. “IPS remains committed to the Indonesian power market as we continue to build upon our market-leading technologies matched with expert, on-the-ground support and local operations.”

Demand for electrical power in Indonesia is expected to grow by at least 10 percent annually over the next six years, and unless the country improves efficiencies and shifts power generation to lower-cost coal and gas-powered facilities, it will not be able to keep pace with demands. IPS’ DCS automation solutions allow PLN Persero to set the stage for current and future planned upgrades, and, more importantly, improve plant revenues by drastically improving plant reliability and operational efficiency.

The IPS solution provides key technological advantages, such as easy operation and maintenance in a single platform, applied with faster response and high reliability, and there is the potential for substantial cost savings for PLN Persero due to implementation of remote input/output in the instrument cable and marshalling cabinet. The integrated asset monitoring and diagnostic system supplied by IPS also performs predictive maintenance, further proving that IPS solutions combine service, technology and business knowledge to offer real-time convergence of plant operations and enterprise performance, further driving efficiency, production and value.

The DCS contract encompasses the installation of an advanced IPS I/A Series? automation infrastructure, integrating more than 30,000 I/O points. The systems will be used to control the new plants’ boilers, turbines and generators, utilizing IPS’ Performance Plus coordinated control system technology, well-proven in power plants worldwide. Subsystem applications will include data acquisition systems, furnace safety supervisory systems, boiler and turbine sequence control systems, turbine digital electro-hydraulic control systems, feed water pump mechanical electro-hydraulic control systems, electric control systems, and balance of plant systems.

About PLN Persero
PT. PLN (Persero) is a state-owned electricity company started in 27 October 1945. In 1972, the Government of Indonesia stipulated that PT. PLN would be Indonesia’s electric power supplier for public needs. In 1992, the Government granted opportunity for the private sector to take part in the business of providing electricity. In line with that policy, in 1994 the status of PLN was transferred from State- Owned Public Electricity Company into a State-Owned Company (Persero).

The company is involved in the planning of distribution network and rural electricity network, construction of facilities to supply electric energy, for generating, transmission, and sub-station. PT. PLN (Persero) is involved in the production of electric energy through power stations using a mix of primary energy, such as Steam Power Station (PLTU) which is fueled by coal, natural gas or gasoline, Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) using hydro energy to generate turbines, Combined Cycle Power Station (PLTGU) fueled by natural gas or gasoline, Geothermal Generated Power Station (PLTP) fueled by geothermal steam, and Diesel Generated Power Station (PLTD) fueled by gasoline.
