Siemens and OSRAM partner with Fudan University to light Expo 2010

Shanghai, July 1, 2008 -- Siemens and OSRAM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, Fudan University on “Visual Art Application of Lighting” for Expo 2010 Shanghai, further demonstrating Siemens’ strong commitment to supporting Shanghai to make the “Better City, Better Life” come true. Targeted to improve the application of lighting art in World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, the cooperation will leverage Siemens’ proven technologies and comprehensive experience in mega events as well as OSRAM’s world-leading lighting products and solutions. Mr. Gong Xueping, Member of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, Mr. Shen Xiaoming, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government and Mr. Xue Mingyang, Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing of cooperation agreement.

As World Expo 2010 is coming, lighting art will present a huge potential of application in the construction of urban facilities, art and cultural performances, large World Expo events in Shanghai. Under the MoU signed today, Siemens, OSRAM and Shanghai Institute of Visual Art will set up a first-class Joint Art Lighting Lab in China. Research and teaching experiments in the visual art applications of modern lighting technologies, especially the emerging energy-saving light sources, e.g. LED will be carried out to better serve Expo 2010 in areas of stage lighting, landscape lighting and lighting art ornaments.

The MoU signed by Mr. Lars Johnsen, President of OSRAM China, Mr. Xu Jianguo, Vice President of Siemens China and General Manager of Siemens Expo Program Center and Prof. Chen Limin, President of Shanghai Institute of Visual Art, Fudan University is expected to largely increase the development of visual art application of lighting. ”We appreciate the long-term support from Siemens and OSRAM in urban construction and education development in Shanghai.” acclaimed Mr. Shen Xiaoming, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, ”We hope that through the enterprise-university cooperation, Siemens, OSRAM and Shanghai Institute of Art Visual will cultivate talents and help make the World Expo 2010 exciting, successful and memorable.”

According to the agreement, the three parties will also establish a Joint Research Team and an Education Interactive Platform. Such will facilitate Siemens and OSRAM to provide comprehensive lighting expertise and energy-efficient solutions through academic research, practical project cooperation and exchange programs. Mr. Heinz-Ludwig Weiss, Senior Vice President of Siemens Ltd., China and CFO of Siemens Industry China, and Dr. Meng Fanchen, Senior Vice President of Siemens China and General Manager of Siemens Shanghai also attended the ceremony.  “Driven by the fast development, Shanghai continuously requires modern infrastructure, in particular with a view to the forthcoming World Expo 2010.” said Mr. Heinz-Ludwig Weiss, “As a Global Sponsorship Partner of Expo 2010, we are committed to taking advantage of our unique business portfolio to help the city become a more beautiful and environment-friendly one. “
